New Adventure Puzzler: Braid

Right now, on XBox Live, there is a new puzzle game that looks somewhat short of amazing that was just released on August 5th. The game, Braid seems to be a big hit with a lot of people, probably due to the coolness of it. I mean, it’s so good, that even 1Up gave it an A+, and they never say good things about anyone!

Okay, that’s a lie, I’m sure. But still - an A+ from 1Up is like a blessing from the heavens above!

The game, which was developed by independent game developer, Jonathan Blow, plays kind of like a Super Mario Brother platformer, except that you can rewind time and do some pretty crazy stuff!

Take a look:

You can check out a demo of the game in the XBox Live Arcade.

Strong Bad hits the world August 11th.

sb.jpg

My favorite e-mail answering bad ass, Strong Bad, is totally going to be hitting the gaming world on August 11th according to TellTale’s website. Hot damn! That’s just in time for… Umm. School to start? Wow. That’s really not so much fun as I thought it would be. I mean, it’s not Christmas or anything.

School starting is totally for the birds.

But, I guess being able to play with Strong Bad is going to make up for it!

And with the new announcement, it looks like the Strong Bad TellTale website got a big improvement! Oh, and you can even go here to pre-order the game. Totally sweet!

Adventure Game Wikipedia article

wikipedia.jpg

Ever think about typing in “Adventure Game” into Wikipedia and seeing what came up? I never really thought about it until just now, so I gave it a try and well… what do you know? There is an entire article about adventure gaming to read about!. Not only do we get the definition of an adventure game, but we also get to read all about the history of adventure games!

SO FREAKING NERDY. I mean, just check out this definition:

This article is about the video game genre. For the British children’s television series, see The Adventure Game.
An adventure game is a type of video game characterized by investigation, exploration, puzzle-solving, interaction with game characters, and a focus on narrative rather than reflex-based challenges. The term originates from the 1970s game Adventure,[1][2] and retains a narrow definition based on the style of gameplay, and not the theme or subject matter (unlike adventure films and adventure novels).

This is definitely the coolest wiki entry ever!

The International House of Mojo: Secret History VI

mi2cover.jpg

Man, is The International House of Mojo cranking out those secret histories or what? They have gotten up to Secret History Part VI and in this issue, we get to read all about the secret histories of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge. Say what?! MONKEY ISLAND 2 is like one of the best games ever!

Except the end was a little weird. I think that’s what added to the charm of the game, though. Oh, and the fact that Guybrush tells Elaine the entire story of Monkey Island 2 whilst hanging from a rope inside a hole. I mean, not only can he hold his breath for 10 minutes, but he also has INCREDIBLE UPPER ARM STRENGTH. Guybrush might want to re-think his pirate career and start doing Ironman Triathlons!

So, go ye faithful to the Adventuress and read all about the secret histories of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

The Immortals of Terra = Candy for Sci-Fi Nerds

What happens when you take a science-fiction series that first came out in 1961 and make a game out of it? Well, it becomes an adventure game, that’s what! And that’s exactly what has become of K. H. Scheer and Clark Darlton’s creation, Perry Rhodan Adventures. Yep, Perry Rhodan has been immortalized in a game that is getting all sorts of great ratings called, The Immortals of Terra. The graphics look pretty awesome and the story sounds cool:

The Immortals of Terra is an epic space adventure set in 1346 New Galactic Era, 4934 AD, starring Perry Rhodan. This breathtaking story takes the player from the very top of a majestic floating palace, through the midst of intergalactic intrigue, to deep below the surface of incredible alien worlds. The goal is to unravel the mystery of the disappearance of Perry’s beloved, Mondra Diamond, but soon the plot thickens and the stakes get higher. The fate of the universe is in peril; get ready for a sci-fi adventure of heroic proportions.

And of course there is a trailer:

So, there you have it. Maybe this can be my thing to do this weekend… if I can find it!

Adventure Architect: Rise of the Hidden Sun

riseofthehiddensun.jpg

There’s a guy out there named Josh Roberts, who owns his own little game production company called Chapter 11 Studios, that is creating his very own adventure game called Rise of the Hidden Sun that has apparently been in production for quite some time. But you know what? Life gets in the way! And Josh’s life has also got in the way, as he now has a house, a kid and one less kidney. I mean, that’s a lot of life happening and I can’t blame a guy for taking some time off from the game he’s creating, even though it looks pretty damn awesome.

And I want to play it.

Anywys, Josh wrote an Adventure Architect article on Adventure Gamers. Adventure Architect articles are awesome, because you get to hear all the nitty gritty details of some kick ass indy adventure game developers. And what isn’t cool about that?

So if you’re into this sort of thing (like me), sit back, grab some coffee (or a coke, whatever makes you happy) and read the damn article.

Nanobots Easter Eggs

I don’t know how the heck this one got by me, but a week ago, Erin “The Ivy” Robinson over at Lively Ivy posted a bunch of hints at what it takes to find Easter Eggs in her new game, Nanobots.

I bet you’re interested in them, aren’t you? I mean, who doesn’t like a good Easter Egg? I mean, did you ever try to kill Guybrush Threepwood in Monkey Island 1? No? Did you even know you could? Well, if you have it in ya, go keep Guybrush underwater for more than ten minutes and see what happens.

Anyways, here’s the list of helpful hints on finding Easter Eggs in Nanobots:

  • Pick up or push the other bots
  • Analyze the necklace, balloon, computer monitor, gumball machine, etc.
  • Put all the bots onto one tile and then have Strongbot push something at them
  • Look at the books 2x
  • Zoom in near the vanishing point of the final image, northeast of the island
  • Heat up Hotbot 5x
  • Dial 911 on the cell phone
  • Hit F8…whoops, sorry, that’s the Easter Egg in Spooks.

Isn’t wasting time fun?
